Wood Sheds

When storage space is limited, as it is in many of today's new residential buildings, a wooden shed can be a perfect solution. Wood sheds are extremely versatile. Every inch is available to take screws to put up shelves, or to hang up heavy items such as ladders or children's bikes.

Plus, as every man knows, it is also the perfect excuse to getaway from the house! To get on with all those little bits of DIY, like renovating furniture or just tinkering with the lawnmower. All away from under the wife's feet! With the abundance of styles, sizes and finishes that are readily available on the market today, they can add a nice finish to the garden and may also add extra value to your house, if you should sell your property. Garden sheds can be shelf bought, or quite quickly made to order, even to fit even the most awkward of spaces.

Usually made with a felt roof and one window, they are waterproof. The window is great, allowing enough light to enter, avoiding the need for electric lighting. The best way to erect a wooden shed is to first put down a concrete pad. Allowing the shed to sit properly, without the risk of subsidence. Then simply bolt the shed to the concrete pad, and, hey presto! You have more secure storage space. Or a child's play den, somewhere for the dog to take shelter, even a home brewery. Pre-made wood sheds are usually made with tongued and grooved jointed wooden slats, which are usually quite thin. Although these are quite windproof, the shed can still be quite cold in the Autumn and Winter months. A heater can be a wise purchase if you are considering spending time in your great, new, wooden shed! Using a small fan heater is recommended, with a separate electric cut off switch. This reduces the risk of fires quite considerably.

Wood sheds are usually delivered, and the wood has already been treated. To protect the wood from termites and increase the wood's ability to withstand the environment. Prolonging the life of the shed. However, it is still recommended to treat the shed, at least once a year, to prevent wood rot. This is easier with a spray gun and can take, literally, minutes this way. This should really be considered as essential maintenance. If you take care of your wooden shed, it will last a very long time and bring years of joy. Especially just after Christmas, when you need to store away all the excess gifts you receive, and never really wanted! When deliberating on purchasing a wood shed, consider what use you need it for, plan ahead. Space permitting, it is always advisable to purchase a slightly larger shed than you think you need. You will always find more 'bits' to put in it!
