So what defines a shed? The English Oxford says it is a "slight structure built for shelter or storage, or for use as a workshop, either a separate building or attached to a permanent building as a lean-to; often with open front or sides." In Australia and New Zealand, a shed defines any building which you do not actually live in.

The structure could even be open at all sides, and it would still be classed as a shed! That's a porch to most of us! So you see, when you are looking for an outdoor shed, depending on where you live, will depend on what you are offered. A shed is usually classed as a 'man thing'. You know, 'HIS' workshop, 'HIS' little hobby haven! But the fact is, outdoor sheds are handy for everyone in the household. A great place to store summer time toys, for example paddling pools and bicycles. Buckets and spades, BBQ's!! You name it, a shed can store it! In the UK too, sheds are virtually a male necessity, especially for those who are retired. "Where's Grandad?" In his potting shed of course!!

It truly is amazing, how important a shed can be to the male gender. For females, it's mostly a place to put all that clutter you don't want in the house. Things you don't need all the time, but are handy to have close by. Did you know, in the UK, they have a 'National Shed Week'? every year! There's even a forum to discuss you shed in! How's that for obsession! Shed's are a great thing to have, there's no doubt about it! If it means more than storage to you, you're probably going to be a bit more particular about which type you purchase. Well, that's fine, because there is a mountain of different sheds available. All shapes an sizes, and various materials to choose from. The world is your oyster! As they say.

Whatever you need an outdoor shed for, there will be one available to suit. Virtually guaranteed. Apparently, a man's need for solace is a great one. The shed gives him that. For women? It keeps things out the way. Always a bonus. [Possibly, including the husband!] Once the decision has been made, you will need to think about where it will go, and where to buy the shed from. Of course, if you are the handy type, you may consider building it yourself. But this can be far more hassle than it's worth. Especially with so many economical 'shed kit's' around. You could pay a craftsman, or contractor, but this can work out fairly expensive. If you are on a budget, shop around. Online is always a great place to go.
